Registration

Open the Cyworld page in a new window and click on 회원 가입하기 to register an account.

 

This will take you to the next page, click on the foreign registration button. No need to fill in the boxes above the buttons. They are asking for the Korean applicants' name and Social Insurance Number.

 

Scroll to the bottom of the terms of use page and click accept.

 

Fill in everything on this page.  The top part is where you'll make your ID.  Your ID is just your email address.  You must check that your email is not being used by clicking 중복확인 before you can register.  If you don't, you'll get an error message saying you need to check it.

 

If your email is not in use, you'll see the popup on the left.  Click 확인 and finish filling in the rest of the page.  If your email is already being used, you'll see the popup the right.  Just close the window and use a different address.  Don't bother with the buttons on the bottom, they will take you to the login page, find your ID or password, and registration page (but not the same as where you are now).

Your "secret number", or password, must be longer than 6 charaters and include both letters and at least one number. Also, it can not have 3 characters in a row that are in your ID. For example, if the email address you are using to register is "myemail@hotmail.com", then you can't have "mye" or "ema" in your password.

 

Fill in the rest of the page. 

The country list is in Korean.  Canada - 개나다, America - 미국, England - 영국... and so on.  The last choice is Other - 기타.

The 4 boxes for the phone numbers are Country Code, Area Code and 2 boxes for the phone number.  Fill in at least one of them, though it doesn't have to be real.  Later on, you can let people on your "Buddy List" see these numbers if you want.

Click the 청부 button to find your ID picture file. You must use an official ID such as a passport or driver's license.   It has to be smaller than 500k.

Next, type the Korean word shown in the picture into the box.

Korean Keyboard Setup - if you have a Korean keyboard, but it's not setup.
Online Virtual Keyboard - type the Korean word here, then cut and paste it into the registration page.

That's it, click the button on the bottom of the page - 회원가입

You must fill in at least one phone number. Use a fake one if you want.

The Korean check has changed, it is now English.

Congratulations!

 

Scroll to the bottom and click.

 

However, if you try to login right away, you'll get this message, saying they are checking your info and making your page.  If you still can't login after a week, then send them an email or fax including your picture ID (passport or driver's license), username (the email address you used) and password.
