Chapter 6

Warm Up

In groups of 2 or 3, ask your partners about what they have done.  Remember, answer in full sentences and ask follow-up questions.

Listening and Conversation

Listen to the conversation between Shirley and Nelly and fill in the blanks.

Conversation

Look at the grammar section first to see what the "Past Simple" and "Present Perfect" type of verbs are, then read the dialogue and circle those verbs.

Now practice the conversation with a partner.

Pronunciation

Be careful when pronouncing words like "George" or "church".  There is no 'ee' (이) sound at the end of these words.  The same thing with words like "joke".  There is no 'eu' (으) sound at the end.

Grammar

Past Simple Present Perfect
Personal Pronoun + verb (past simple)

I bought a hat.
I went shopping.

Personal Pronoun + have/has + verb (past participle)

He has gone to Canada.
We have seen that movie.

Fill in the blanks for exercises 1 and 2.

Here are a couple of practice tests:

Did you get 100%?

Conversation Practice

Write your own stories, one using past simple, the other using present perfect...then listen to your partner read their story.

Note:  This may be given as homework - check with your teacher.

Wrap Up - You are in another country (NOT Korea) and you are writing a postcard to your friend.

  • Who are you writing to?
  • Where are you now?
  • What have you done?
  • What are you doing now?
  • What is the weather like?
